Three systems
One Important Job
TIMING BELT
The traditional cambelt
A reinforced rubber belt synchronises the crankshaft and camshaft. Timing belts naturally deteriorate with age and mileage, so they need to be replaced according to the manufacturer's schedule.
Typical concern: Age and mileage-related deterioration
If it fails: Potentially severe engine damage
TIMING CHAIN
Metal chain, but not maintenance-free
Timing chains are designed to last longer than conventional belts, but they can still stretch or suffer from worn guides and tensioners.
Typical warning signs: Rattling noises, poor running, warning lights or difficulty starting.

Why can timing systems fail?
Timing components don't necessarily fail because something has suddenly gone wrong. Age, mileage, maintenance and component wear can all play a part:
Component Wear
Tensioners, guides and water pumps can also become worn and affect the timing system.
The problem is that timing system failure can happen with little or no warning.

Wet Belt Replacement Specialists
Wet belt systems require particular care because the belt operates inside the engine and is exposed to engine oil.
We work with a range of vehicles fitted with wet belt systems, including:
- Ford EcoBoost
- Ford Transit EcoBlue
- Peugeot/Citroën PureTech
Using the correct parts, oil specification and manufacturer-recommended procedures is essential when carrying out this type of work.
If you have a wet belt vehicle and you're unsure when it is due for replacement, speak to our team.
